Fear follows 16-year-old Nicole Walker (Reese Witherspoon), who, after the death of her mother, struggles with her relationship with her father, Steven (William Petersen), and her stepmother, Laura (Amy Brenneman). Nicole is a typical teenager looking for excitement and independence.

At first, David is the perfect boyfriend. He is handsome, romantic, and intense. Nicole falls hard, much to the chagrin of her father, Steven (the legendary from Manhunter and CSI ). However, as Nicole tries to pull away, David’s "intensity" curdles into violent obsession.

The film is available on Blu-ray and DVD for collectors.

Nicole's father, Steve, has been suspicious of David from the very first introduction. What he sees as a dangerous predator in sheep's clothing, Nicole dismisses as her father's overprotectiveness. The rift between father and daughter widens as David tightens his grip on Nicole's affections.

Fear remains a masterclass in mid-90s suspense. It serves as a reminder of how quickly young love can spiral into a fight for survival, anchored by two lead performances that forecast the bright futures of its starring duo.

As the story unfolds, David's true nature is revealed, and the film descends into a thrilling exploration of obsession, control, and the darker aspects of human relationships. The movie's climax is both intense and unsettling, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats.

The movie centers around David (played by William Petersen), a charismatic and menacing stranger who moves to a small town in California. He becomes infatuated with Sandy (played by Reese Witherspoon), a beautiful and innocent teenager who is struggling to cope with her parents' marital issues. David begins to manipulate Sandy, slowly gaining her trust and eventually becoming her boyfriend.

Modern audiences love going back to see the foundational roles of megastars like Wahlberg and Witherspoon.
