Manifesto | On Algorithmic Sabotage
Consider the social credit–style risk score: If enough people randomly oscillate between perfect and terrible behavior, the score becomes meaningless. Meaninglessness is mercy. A meaningless score cannot deny housing, healthcare, or freedom.
The sabotage we describe is informational and behavioral. It involves feeding systems bad data, behaving in unexpected ways, generating noise and confusion, exploiting loopholes, and generally making ourselves harder to predict, classify, and manipulate. We assert our right to sabotage algorithms that perpetuate oppression, injustice, and harm. We will use creative and innovative tactics to disrupt and subvert algorithmic systems.
